When the stormy weather in Silverton started to take a toll on morale, we decided we'd head out a few days sooner than planned. Good thing our house has wheels, right?
But before we left town, we wanted to squeeze in a mine tour and we wanted to check out the Museum in town. We almost skipped doing both but now we're so glad we took the time. After our last minute site seeing, we hitched up and headed out of town.
We were a little nervous about the Million Dollar Highway between Silverton and Ouray (if you're not familiar with this drive, just check out the footage in the video and you'll see why.) Luckily we made it to Ouray with no problems and we continued in to Montrose to restock with groceries. We had no idea where we were going to stay that night. Sometimes flying by the seat of your pants can get you into trouble and sometimes it leads to something amazing. Fortunately, on this occasion it was the latter.
We ended up finding a place to Boondock near Gunnison. We had mountain bike trails right at our doorstep, 4 bars of 4G, a great view of town and we were only about 45 minutes from Crested Butte. Gunnison is one of those gems we literally stumbled onto and we're so glad we did.
Steve and Tess love to explore nature, whether it be backpacking, packrafting, mountain biking, hiking, or just wandering. The more we explore, the more we realize just how little we've seen.
