The first time we visited Grand Teton National Park, it was one of those wonderful spontaneous things. We packed light, hopped in our Mazda Miata and hit the road. We visited Yellow Stone on that trip too, but Grand Teton is the one that left the greatest impression on us and we've returned every year since then. We love Grand Teton's impressive rugged mountain peaks, beaufiful forest, crystal lakes, and the iconic snake river. There are tons of great hikes and paddles in the national park and the surrounding area features some world class mountain biking trails too. For our first autumn on the road and we decided we'd spend part of it in Grand Teton. The fall colors were spectacular, the eerie sound of the elk bugling was something we'll never forget, and the lighter crowds in the park made it heaven'y. There were a couple storms that rolled through during our two weeks there, but we sill had plenty warm sunny days for exploring. In our latest episode, we paddle String Lake on our new Sea Eagle paddle boards. If you get a chance to paddle in Grand Teton, it's well worth the trouble of getting the permits to do it (and it's really not that much trouble anyhow.) Check out the video and you'll see what we mean!

Hi, I really enjoyed your latest paddle board YouTube. Thanks for sharing your most excellent adventures. Just checked the Jackson Hole weather and it's looks some snow showers are in your future. I would like to hear how well Sparky kept you warm. With the snow and cold arriving tonight and tomorrow what does Tess and Fender do during the day?

Thanks for following along, Robert. We're backlogged with videos about a month so we saw the tops of the mountains get snow in September but we dodged that bullet while we were in Jackson. But we got a few nights of hard frost while we were there. We had to run for propane about every week but since we don't plan on wintering at a snowy climate, we can handle that for a few weeks.

Is paddle boarding hard on the back?

I'm not sure. Where I feel it most is in my core and the muscles of my feet--the areas I use to help me hold my balance. It's definitely worth renting to try it out!

AuthorSteve and Tess love to explore nature, whether it be backpacking, packrafting, mountain biking, hiking, or just wandering. The more we explore, the more we realize just how little we've seen. Archives
