Exploring is a lot more fun when we've got friends around. That's why we made plans to cross paths with some of our friends while we were in Southern Colorado. It was a weekend filled with great friends, beautiful mountain views, a few hairy 4x4 roads, lots of mining history, and evenings around the campfire. In today's episode, we ride along with friends over Black Bear Pass, drive through the town of Telluride, and head back to Silverton by way of Ophir Pass.

Awesome. Will have to try this, but maybe not in the rain.

Brings back memories. We did Black Bear on our honeymoon exactly 30 years ago in our then new 1985 Nissan 4x4 pickup. It was the base model (rear bumper and right side mirror were extra and there was no radio). Our dog barked the whole way. My husband wanted to camp in the flat spot in front of the gaping mine entrance. I vetoed that because I thought it was too spooky. I was sure we would tumble off the road on the way down but then realized there were no other vehicles down below that had met that fate. Small comfort, but enough to keep me from completely freaking out. Thanks for posting this video.

AuthorSteve and Tess love to explore nature, whether it be backpacking, packrafting, mountain biking, hiking, or just wandering. The more we explore, the more we realize just how little we've seen. Archives
